Roy Carney is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a National Certified School Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. Roy is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Illinois Counseling Association (ICA), Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA), and American School Counselors Association (ASCA).
After earning a bachelor's degree in economics from Loyola University Chicago, Roy worked as a financial advisor. Serving his clients unlocked a passion for hearing other people's stories and creating strategies for clients to establish and achieve personal goals. This work encouraged Roy's own processes of personal and professional discernment, prompting a transition to counseling. Roy earned a master's degree in counseling with a dual focus (clinical and school counseling) from National Louis University.
For almost a decade, Roy worked as a high school counselor at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. There, his practice was rooted in the holistic formation of his students by supporting their social and emotional well being while guiding academic development. In 2020, Roy was recognized as an "Outstanding Educator" by the University of Chicago.
Roy's private practice work focuses on adolescents, emerging adults, and parent/child relational dynamics. With a focus on Cognitive Behavioral strategies, Roy utilizes differentiated counseling modalities and therapeutic strategies to meet each client's needs.
